Hello all! I'm really glad I found this community.
I've been obsessed with swords since I was a very small child. I have a wooden practice sword and some toy ones I used to play with when I was younger. I never thought I would be able to share that love (my friends all agree I am weird. ^_^), so I'm glad I found a place where everyone is just as "weird" as I am. I don't have much experience with swords, but I'm hoping to change that as I've found a fencing club nearby me, and I can't wait to join.

Personally, I would rather learn real sword fighting, not fencing. A friend of mine had gone to the same fencing club and a real sword fighter took him under his wing. I'm hoping the same will happen to me.  Still, I'm hoping fencing will be fun; why should I turn down such a good opportunity to learn something new?!

So, does any one have any tips for someone new to the art of fencing, and hopefully real sword fighting? How do I build some muscles, and which ones should I focus on? I'd appreciate ANY tips even remotely related to swords/fencing/sword fighting.

Also, has anyone experienced the Zone? I don't know the real name for it, but it's like... your vision centers down on the target(s) and nothing but that exists... Pain, fatigue... you just barely register them, if at all. Your mind goes blank, fully concentrated on what you’re doing. It's almost like funnel vision. I can't seem to explain it any better than that. =/
